News Release

The Grand Forks City Council has passed an enhanced local ordinance to bring the local smoke free workplace law into line with the new North Dakota law. The new ordinance will go into effect on December 7, 2012, one day after the state law goes into effect.

The definition of smoke-free environments now includes more public places, smoking cannot take place closer than 20 feet from a door or entrance, and e-cigarettes are not allowed in any places that are smoke-free.

The ordinance already prohibits smoking in outdoor areas of restaurants and some bars such as patios, rooftops or decks. Shelters or outdoor areas of restaurants and bars where food or beverages are sold, served or consumed are also smoke-free in Grand Forks.
