The Blue Ribbon Commission on Housing has released its final recommendations to try to deal with creating available and affordable housing in Grand Forks. The recommendations follow from more than three months of commission and public conversation on the state of housing in Grand Forks and how to strengthen it.

To ensure a high quality of life for Grand Forks residents, the report says the community needs to increase its supply of a diverse housing stock. However, the report also mentions that it is difficult to build new “affordable” single-family homes.

“To achieve our goals, we must work together,” said Mayor Michael Brown. “That means we have to be willing to compromise – whether it’s decisions by the City Council, plans from developers or aspirations by land owners – we’re all in this together.”

The ideas range from rental housing safety to a state supported infrastructure revolving loan fund to a local "housing dashboard". They are being forwarded to appropriate stakeholders, policy makers and the public. A copy of the recommendations can be found on the Grand Forks City webpage at www.grandforksgov.com
