On June 9th, 2013 at approximately 8:28 pm officers of the Grand Forks Police Department responded to a medical assist involving a person suffering a reported heart attack in the 300 block of 1st Ave. S. Upon the officer’s arrival they located the subject in distress. This subject was eventually transported to Altru Hospital. Officers were then told that an incident involving a suicidal female subject armed with a firearm had led to the medical assist. Officers learned that there had been a confrontation over a firearm and the firearm had apparently been discharged.

The suicidal subject had left the scene prior to the officer’s arrival. Officers immediately attempted to locate her. Officers eventually located her back at her residence some time later. Officers made contact with her to check her welfare. The subject refused to speak with officers or to exit the residence. The subject was thought to still be suicidal and armed so surrounding neighbors were evacuated and/or sheltered in place. The Grand Forks SWAT and Crisis Negotiations Teams were eventually deployed. The subject was safely taken in custody at approximately 5:00 am. The subject was transported to Altru Hospital for evaluation. This investigation continues with possible criminal charges being reviewed.
