In 1999, the North Dakota Legislature created the Renaissance Zone Program to help revitalize communities statewide and encourage development through tax incentives.  Offering both state and local tax incentives for five years, the “Ren Zone” provides both residents and business owners with incentives to invest in the community.  The Program is administered under statewide guidelines plus development plans that are unique to each City.  The Grand Forks Renaissance Zone was established in 2001; the local Plan was updated in 2011, and boundaries were expanded at that time.

Properties located within the zone are eligible for state income tax and city property tax exemptions or credits depending on the type of project being pursued.

Different project types include:

  • New Construction
  • Rehab/Remodel (no purchase)
  • Lease
  • Utilities
